Stronglifts 5x5 and running update#

I enjoyed doing this program and it was cool to try something new and different.

I only started doing this last week, but it helps me focus on my diet and exercise and makes it easy to go back andВ evaluate anything that needs to change. I also keep track of when I wake up and go to bed, everything I eat, when I get hungry (which is ALL THE TIME!), how IвЂ™m feeling if itвЂ™s out of the ordinary and my stats at the end of the day (food macros and movement progressВ for the day). I wish I had started using this inВ the beginning of the program, as I think it wouldвЂ™ve helped me pinpoint the things I was doing wrong much earlier on and made the past few monthsВ more productive.

It makes me pay attention to what IвЂ™m doing and allows me to correctВ anything that needs it right away (like breathing, lowering weight if a set was too hard, any form issues, etc.). If you plan on starting any type of exercise program, but especially something thatвЂ™s new to you, I would suggest keeping a journal and bringing it with you when you work out.В I bring it along to the gym and make notes on how IвЂ™m feeling (tired, sore, off, etc.) and how each set goes. Whether youвЂ™reВ just looking for a good yoga video to do on your rest days or have anВ area youВ wantВ to stretch out or makeВ more flexible, thereвЂ™s something for everyone. I found Sara Beth Yoga on YouTube, whichВ featuresВ tons of videos ranging from 5-30 minutes in length. I started doing yoga on non-lifting days, which has been beneficial for recovery and flexibility. IвЂ™ve also been running for 20-30 minutes right after I lift and IвЂ™m happy to reportВ that the strength training hasВ improved my pace and madeВ hills a lot easier! Yoga is win for recovery IвЂ™ve been doing that routine before I lift, and IвЂ™m happy to announce that IвЂ™m able to squat lower so my butt is actually at the same level as my knees! I also position my feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart-a wider stance has reallyВ helped with depth, balance and control. IвЂ™m also looking forward toВ moving up my bench press weight this week to 60 pounds after being stuck for 2 months at 55 pounds!Д«ack in this post, I told you how horrible my hip flexibility is and the stretches I was trying in orderВ to fix it. My shoulders and chest are by far my weakest areas, so even though my progress is slow, IвЂ™m getting stronger, and thatвЂ™s really what this is all about!В Before I started this program, I had just worked up to using 12 poundВ dumbbells for shoulder exercises and now IвЂ™m using 25 pounds to overhead press! ThatвЂ™s pretty exciting! ItвЂ™s slow-going at the moment, but considering my trial-and- error period, IвЂ™m happy with my progress.В I upped the weight too quickly on squats, barbell row and deadliftВ and had to bring it back down in order to fix my form, but it was definitely worth it and I feel much more comfortable doing them.
